The municipality is bordered by the ZF Mgcawu and Frances Baard Districts in the north, Siyathemba and Thembelihle in the south, the Free State Province in the east, and the ZF Mgcawu District in the west. It is one of the eight municipalities that make up the district, accounting for 16% of its geographical area.
General Information
The seat of the municipality is Douglas. The municipality includes former Transitional Local Councils of Douglas, Griekwastad and Campbell. Douglas is well known for a geographic feature found in Douglas only The confluence of The Vaal and The Orange Rivers – the two biggest rivers of South Africa. Griekwastad is known for its unending stream of underground water. There are submissions indicating that the underground stream in Griekwastad is connected to the famous ‘EYE’ in Kuruman.
