After months of political infighting and administrative paralysis, the Ditsobotla Local Municipality has finally elected a new mayor and speaker, marking a potential turning point in its prolonged governance crisis. This follows a direct intervention by the national government due to the municipality’s severe service delivery failures, financial mismanagement, and the existence of parallel administrations within council. A special council sitting was convened on 23 September, resulting in the re-election of Mayor Morutse and Speaker Manana Bogatsu (EFF), under the supervision of national government representative Kopung Ralikontsane. The intervention aimed to stabilise leadership and restore basic services, with officials expressing optimism that a unified council will now enable a renewed focus on delivering sustainable services to the community.
