The Dannhauser Local Municipality is a Category B municipality situated within the Amajuba District in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The municipality, the smallest in the district, makes up a quarter of its area and is named after an old farming family. Dannhauser is located midway between Durban and Johannesburg and is surrounded by large coal-producing mines. It serves as a small rural service center, with residents relying on nearby urban centers for employment and services.

The council has 25 seats with 7 political parties represented. The ANC is a leading party with 9 but falls short of the requisite 13 to govern alone. The current coalition is made up of the ANC, EFF, CPF and ABC totalling 14 seats.
