eThekwini Metropolitan area, located in KwaZulu-Natal, is the largest city in the province and the third-largest in the country. It serves as the economic hub of KZN, with a major port and vibrant tourism sector. The city is known for its dynamic economy, diverse cultural attractions, and beautiful coastal landscapes.

Composition of Council

The council has 210 seats with 12 political parties represented. The ANC is a leading party with 96 seats but falls short of the requisite 106 to govern alone. The current coalition is made up of the ANC, EFF and NFP totalling 121 seats.
