Lekwa Local Municipality is a Category B municipality, sharing executive and legislative authority with the Gert Sibande District Municipality (Category C). Located in the highveld region, it is bordered by Govan Mbeki to the north, Pixley Ka Isaka Seme and Msukaligwa to the east, and Dipaleseng to the west.
