The Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality is a Category B municipality situated in the Namakwa District of the Northern Cape Province.

The municipality is the second-largest of the six municipalities in the district, making up a quarter of its geographical area. After the Section 12 notice was placed on 25 October 2021, the municipality now has a collective executive system with a ward participatory system.

Composition of Council

The council has 11 seats and 4 political parties represented. The ANC is a leading party with 5 seats but falls short of the requisite 6 to govern alone. Following the by elections held on 4th December 2024, the ANC has the outright majority and this municipality is no longer under coalition government.
