The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality is a Category A municipality situated in the Gauteng Province. The City of Tshwane is the single-largest metropolitan municipality in the country, comprising seven regions, 105 wards and 210 councillors. The City is located in Pretoria which is the capital of South Africa.

The City of Tshwane has 214 council seats, with 16 political parties represented in council. The ANC is a leading party with 75 seats but falls short of the requisite 108 to govern.  The ANC is the largest part at 75, followed by the DA 69, EFF 23, ACTIONSA 19, VF PLUS 17, ACDP 2, AIC 1, ATM 1, COPE 1, DOP 1, GOOD 1, IFP 1, PA 1, PAC 1, RC 1. The current coalition is made up of ANC, ActionSA, EFF, FF Plus, PA.
