The Democratic Alliance (DA) Multi-Charter coalition in the city of Tshwane is on the brink of collapse after ActionSA announced that they are leaving the DA-led coalition. This move paves the way for the formation of a new coalition to govern the city. Since the formation of the GNU, ActionSA has expressed its unhappiness with the manner in which the DA had decided to dump the Multi-Charter for South Africa (MPC) for a Government of National Unity (GNU). The decision of the DA to join the GNU is seen as the highest form of political betrayal by ActionSA, considering that the DA was instrumental in the formation of the moonshot pact, which was later changed to the Multi Charter for South Africa. ActionSA leader Mr. Herman Mashaba said, “A significant concern is that parties such as the Democratic Alliance (DA) joined the GNU out of desperation for power and positions rather than a genuine desire to put the interests of South Africans first. This opportunistic move underscores a troubling priority shift towards political gain over public service.” It is quite evident that ActionSA is on a revenge spree, which entails to unseat all the DA’s coalitions in the metropolitan areas of Gauteng; as the saying goes, chickens have come home to roost for the DA. However, ActionSA has indicated that the reason for exiting the coalition is mainly “the Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) backdoor negotiations with the African National Congress (ANC) that forced it to cut ties with the party in Tshwane.”
