The African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg has put forward the name of their regional chairperson, Dada Morero, who is also the current Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for finance in the city of Johannesburg, as the next mayor of the city following the resignation of mayor Kabelo Gwamanda, a member of the Al Jamaah party. Morero is said to return to the mayoral seat following his short stint as the mayor of Johannesburg for 25 days, from 30 September 2022 until 25 October 2022. The speaker of council in the City of Johannesburg, councillor Margaret Arnolds, has scheduled a special council meeting on 16 August 2024 to elect a new mayor.
