Dr Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA elected as Mayor of Tshwane

On 09 October 2024, Cllr. Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA was elected as the 5th Mayor of Tshwane since the 2021 local government elections. Moya received 122 votes beating opponent Cllr. Cilliers Brink of the DA who obtained 86 votes from council. These results come after a coalition agreement between the ANC, ActionSA, EFF and other parties was finalised a few hours before the council meeting took place. The DA had previously warned that should the ANC not support the DA’s candidate and reinstate Brink, it will withdraw from the Government of National Unity and end talks for a possible stability pact with ANC across other metropolitan municipalities under coalition, namely Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane.
