KwaDukuza Mayor and Deputy resign from their positions

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has instructed KwaDukuza Mayor Ali Muzi Ngidi and Deputy Mayor Sicelinjabulo Cele to resign with immediate effect, citing serious governance failures and misconduct. This move follows allegations of unauthorised spending on luxury vehicles and private security services, all without proper council approval. The municipality has also been marred by reports of financial mismanagement and ongoing service delivery issues, including frequent power outages and deteriorating infrastructure. The decision has been welcomed by some of the political parties represented in the coalition-led municipality, who have raised concerns about leadership accountability and service delivery standards. The ANC’s Provincial Task Team views the resignations as part of a broader effort to restore public confidence and strengthen its position ahead of the 2026 local government elections. Ngidi and Cele tendered their resignations on July 3, 2025.
