Twenty-three by- elections took place around the country today

Today, there were twenty-three by-elections that took place in five provinces across the country. These by-elections are crucial as they might have an effect on the configuration and composition of various councils and coalitions. The province of KwaZulu Natal accounts for the largest number of by-elections that took place today, having recorded about nine by-elections, followed by the provinces of Free State and North West seating at five by-elections, respectively. The province of Gauteng is sitting in the third position with three by-elections, while Limpopo had only one by-election in this round of by-elections. Various political parties are trying to solidify their positions in various councils and municipalities towards 2026 local government elections.
