The Knysna Municipality is a Category B municipality located in the Garden Route District of the Western Cape.

It is one of the smallest municipalities among the seven that make up the Garden Route District. Despite its size, it ranks as the fourth-largest economy within the district, offering robust infrastructure and essential services. It borders George Local Municipality to the north-west and Bitou Local Municipality to the east.

Composition of Council

The council has 21 seats with 4 political parties and 2 civic movements represented. The DA is a leading party with 8 seats but falls short of the requisite 11 to govern alone. The current coalition is made up of the ANC , EFF, PA and PBI totalling 10 seats
